Goals, resolutions, plans, ambitions, promises, decisions, call it what you may, but with a New Year just around the corner, you’re bound to start some soul-searching to decide on a future course of action. There’s something about a new beginning that sets us on overdrive to start making some fresh new goals to get a little closer to what we aspire for in life. But setting goals without a follow through plan never really gets us anywhere.

Having a goal without charting a way forward is a frivolous exercise. And most often than not we end up setting goals that are unachievable and well, some we outgrow. Set Specific and General Goals

This might seem counterintuitive but it’s necessary to set goals that are specific to your needs but also keep the larger picture in mind. Wanting to lose x number of kilos is a specific goal, but only focusing on that could make you cultivate unhealthy eating habits that might end up hurting you rather than helping. So, having a general goal like “getting healthier in 2025” will let you focus on finding new, healthier ways to lose weight. Balancing general and specific goals will make you enjoy the process rather than obsess over the outcome.

Be Flexible

People change and evolve and so do our needs. Accept that what you want today might not be the same even a few months down the road. So, accept change as a part of your learning and growing process and be ready to accept a shift in perspective as a part of your progress.
